Family room opening to the trees through a wall of glass

Architects & designers

A home is only as good as the thinking behind it.

Every project here is a collaboration, and it begins with the design partnership. We work hand in hand with architects and interior designers, local and national, so the home you imagine on paper is the one that gets built.

Come with a design team already in place, or ask us to help you find one. Both are welcome; both are common.

Already have an architect?

We join the team you’ve chosen

Many clients arrive with an architect or designer on board. We slot in alongside them, one team with one set of goals, and take the design intent as the brief to protect.

Need one?

Ask us for an introduction

We work with twenty-plus architects and designers across Metro Detroit in relationships measured in decades. We know how each works and what they do best, and we’re glad to introduce you to the ones whose sensibility fits what you have in mind. Never a hard sell; just part of guiding a project well.

Out of town?

New York, Chicago, Los Angeles

Our deepest relationships are here at home, but we collaborate just as readily with out-of-town firms on Michigan houses. Across the street or across the country, the partnership runs on the same footing.

Why the builder belongs in the room early

Most surprises are decided before construction starts.

The costly ones trace back to choices made before the builder was involved. So we join during design: reviewing drawings, weighing materials and methods, and grounding the vision in what can be built well, while a change is still a pencil line.

The result is a calmer project and a house that matches the drawings you fell in love with.

For architects and designers

What working with us looks like.

A short version of what your clients will also read on Approach.

One set of documents

Drawings, selections, allowances, decisions, and revisions kept current and shared, so a partner two time zones away works from the same page as one across town.

A steady rhythm

A single point of contact, regular check-ins, and a written update every week of construction.

Ask before substituting

Where a detail can’t be built as drawn, you hear about it early, with options, and the decision stays with the design team and the owner.

Start the conversation

Tell us about the project, or the team you’re assembling.

Bring us in early. A conversation before the drawings are finished costs nothing and saves a great deal.
