Bluff House

Metro Detroit · Lakefront · Custom concrete brick, black steel, glass, and walnut

A new house on a bluff above the lake: long and low, in custom concrete-formed brick, black steel, and walls of glass that slide away to the lawn. The owners wanted a modern house with warmth, one that feels like home the moment you walk in. Inside, that is the work of walnut cabinetry and built-ins, herringbone oak floors, and a kitchen in stainless steel and book-matched marble; outside, a covered terrace and the pool carry the living out to the edge of the bluff.

Modern is where the details get hard. Brick coursing that runs unbroken around every corner, thresholds flush from floor to lawn, glass meeting brick and steel with nothing to hide behind. We built it so there is nothing to forgive.
